Sermon Series:
This Sunday we start our study of 2 Peter. Our theme for this year is "Use your freedom in Christ to love God and others well!" 2 Peter has a lot to say about how to use our freedom well. This week we will be looking at 2 Peter 1:1-2, which lays the foundation for the rest of the book.
Sermon Passage:
2 Peter 1:1-2
Sermon outline
- Never stop growing in your equal opportunity, gifted faith! (v. 1)
- Never stop growing in multiplication of grace and peace through experiencing Jesus as God and Lord of your life! (v. 2)
Study/Discussion Questions
- How does understanding that your faith was a gift to you not because of your merit change how you approach God?
- How does understanding that everyone who has been gifted faith has access to all that God offers change how you approach people who are different than you?
- Why do you think Peter emphasizes that knowledge of Jesus as our God and Lord is at the root of continually growing?
- Have you experienced this process of your knowledge and experience of Jesus causing grace and peace to be multiplied in you? What does that look like? What could it look like?
- What is one thing that God wants you to do, remember or change in response to what you have heard today?
