(v. 5-11)  A. Not regarding lightly  B. Not despairing  C. Being trained by troubleQuestions for Discussion

  • Referring to verse 1, what is the baggage you need to deal with and lay aside?  Have you ever asked someone else what your baggage might be?  What is the besetting sin that you need to lay aside?  Have you ever asked someone else what your besetting sin might be?
  • How might you be tempted to run someone else’s race?  What are the problems that can develop if we do this?
  • How do you think keeping your eyes fixed on Jesus makes a difference in terms of how you run the race?  What example of Jesus most encourages you as you run this faith race?
  • Which extreme response to the Lord’s discipline do you tend towards: regarding it lightly or giving in to despair?  What could help you to rather move towards being trained by trouble?
  • What is one thing that God wants you to remember, do or change in response to what you heard today?
