Sermon Series:
This week, pastoral elder Jadae Fox brings a message about asking the question we have all asked ourselves at different times, "Why did I do that?"
Sermon Passage: Matthew 6:1–6
Sermon Outline:
The Call: Kingdom righteousness lives before the God who sees.
- God Sees Why We Do What We Do
- Kingdom Righteousness Seeks the Father, Not Recognition
Discussion/Study Questions
- Jesus warns against practicing righteousness "to be seen by others." What are some ways people can seek recognition for doing good things, even unintentionally?
- The sermon emphasized that God's sight is both comforting and confronting. Which of those truths do you need most right now, and why?
- When you think about your service, generosity, ministry involvement, or prayer life, what helps you remember that God sees and values faithfulness even when others do not?
- What do you think Jesus means when He says, "Do not let your left hand know what your right hand is doing"? How would that look in everyday life?
The sermon contrasted two questions:
"Did anyone notice what I did?"
"Did this please my Father?" - Which question are you more tempted to ask, and how can you grow in seeking the Father instead of recognition?
- One of God's rewards is that He draws us closer to Himself and shapes us to be more like Christ. How have you seen God use giving, prayer, service, or obedience to change your character over time?
