Sermon Series:
It is Mother's Day Sunday! It may seem strange to have a sermon from Matthew 5:31-32 on Mother's Day, but this passage is a strong protection of women and of mothers. In Jesus' time, women were not allowed to divorce and could be divorced for things as small as burning the dinner. Jesus' words gave strong protections to women and mothers.
Sermon Passage: Matthew 5:31-32
Sermon Outline:
- Value marriage like God does by viewing it as a covenant and not a contract!
- Value marriage like God does by viewing divorce as a final option rather than as a first option!
- Value marriage like God does by exercising the beatitudes in your marriage!
Questions for Discussion and Study
- What is the difference between a covenant and a contract? How does that difference affect how one views marriage?
- Why do people tend to view divorce as a first option rather than a last option? What can be done to change that mentality?
- How might you exercise the beatitudes in your relationships and if it applies, in your marriage?
- What is one thing the God wants you to remember, do or change in response to what you have heard today?
