This week, Pastor Eric Byrom continues our expedition through 2 Timothy. He encourages us to be a God approve servant!

Sermon Title: Be a God-approved servant!

Sermon Outline

  • Be a God-approved servant by reminding of right and warning of wrong. (vv. 14-19)
  • Be a God-approved servant by cleansing oneself. (vv. 20-21)
  • Be a God-approved servant by fleeing wrong and pursuing good. (vv. 22-24)

Study/Discussion Questions

  1. Which do you find easier to do, remind or warn?  Why is it important that we keep these in balance?
  2. What do you think Paul is challenging Timothy to cleanse himself of?  How would this relate to you today?  What is God asking you to cleanse yourself of?
  3. Why is it important for Christians to both flee and pursue?  Which of these do you find easier to do?  What does this command look like for you to obey today?
  4. What kinds of “disputes” are worthwhile for Christians to engage in?  What kinds are not worthwhile?  Give examples.
  5. What undesirable ‘youthful passions’ have you seen in yourself and others?  How does the Christian response to these contrast with the secular culture?
  6. What is one thing that God is wanting you to remember, be warned about or change in response to what you heard today?
